The New Commonwealth Racial Equity and Social Justice Fund (NCF) announced Tuesdaythat it is awarding $3 million in grants tomore than 100nonprofits “working to advance racial equity” in Massachusetts.
The organizations receiving this year’s awards are part of a diverse cohort: 82 percent are Black or Latino, and more than 60 percent identify as women or nonbinary. Their organizations are based across Massachusetts in cities including Brockton, Worcester, and Springfield, and their work focuses on NCF’s own priorities, such as economic empowerment, policing and criminal justice reform, and health equity.
“I hope that what it does is continue to offer a real sense of liberation and power to the leaders that we’re supporting,” said NCF president Makeeba McCreary.
This round of funding brings the organization’s total grantmaking to more than $13 million since launching in 2020 after the murder of George Floyd and during the devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
